Northwest ISD earns TASB Risk Fund Excellence Award
The NISD Benefits & Risk Management Department are recognized at a school board meeting

The Texas Association of School Boards Risk Fund has awarded the Northwest ISD Benefits & Risk Management Department with its 2023 Excellence Award, an honor provided to just seven school districts in the state for projects that solve common risk challenges.

Northwest ISD’s risk management staff received the award for their work creating a streamlined motor vehicle collision reporting system. They addressed the challenge by equipping each district vehicle with a step-by-step guide, form for documenting details and a guide for taking photos at the scene. The district’s risk management staff include Kitty Poehler, executive director; Tracy Schutz, benefits specialist; Monika Romero Chavez, risk management specialist; and Angela Calvert, administrative assistant.

The TASB Risk Fund Excellence Award recognizes school districts, community colleges and education service centers that implement exemplary solutions to common and emerging risk management challenges. These solutions are considered best practices to deal with challenges from common risks.

As a result of its award, Northwest ISD received a plaque and a monetary grant from the TASB Risk Fund.
