On Saturday, April 11, students from across Texas gathered in Arlington for Lone Star Finals, the state Destination Imagination Tournament. Thirteen teams from Northwest ISD earned invitations to compete after outstanding performances at the GFW DI Regional Tournament in February. Approximately 500 teams participated in one of six challenges, with only the top six teams in each challenge and age group advancing to Global Finals—raising the level of competition even higher.  Students from Medlin, Beck, Cox, Roanoke, Schluter, Eaton, Byron Nelson, and Northwest High School showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills in both the Central Challenge and Instant Challenge.

Among them was We Just Want to DI, composed of Byron Nelson and Northwest High Schools students. This group has competed together for several years, with most of the members forming bonds as far back as elementary school. This year, We Just Want to DI competed in the Texas DI Xtreme Challenge.  On competition day, the team received their challenge & any needed materials at check in.  The team then had one hour in Base Camp to solve the challenge before presenting it to a panel of appraisers.  We Just Want to DI placed 4th.  DI Xtreme is a Texas challenge only, so this team will not be going to Globals.

Five NISD teams scored in the top six of their challenge to advance to Globals in Kansas City, May 21-24, to participate in the world’s largest celebration of creativity and problem solving. Congratulations to the following teams for advancing: The Wabbits, RCBC, Wait . . . What? and Teenage Mutant Ninja Bacon.  RCBC, from Eaton High School, took on two challenges this year, Fine Arts and Service Learning.  They placed in both challenges and have the opportunity to compete in both at Globals next month.

Summer Camp Opportunity

Looking for some summer fun? Consider signing up for our Creative Problem-Solving Camp.  This camp welcomes both DI alum and students new to DI. The camp will offer sessions on various components of Destination Imagination like prop building, repurposing materials for something new, instant challenges, and improv.  The four day camp ends with team presentations.

Dates: June 15-19
Location: Hughes Elementary

You can find Creative Problem Solving Camp in School Cash. Visit the online payment portal to register.
