Northwest ISD has promoted Sarah Thornell to become the next principal of Sendera Ranch Elementary School. Ms. Thornell will replace John Booles, who will open Carter Elementary School as the inaugural principal, after the 2022-2023 school year concludes.

Ms. Thornell currently serves as the assistant principal of J.C. Thompson Elementary School and has previously served in the same capacity at Peterson Elementary School. Her administrative experience also includes three years as an elementary principal in White Settlement ISD. She is a longtime Northwest ISD educator, teaching at various elementary and middle school campuses, including teaching first-grade students at Sendera Ranch from 2008 to 2011.

With a return to the campus where she began her journey in Northwest ISD in a new role, Ms. Thornell said she will lead with enthusiasm and passion for education.

“Sendera Ranch Elementary School holds a special place in my heart, as it was my first home in Northwest ISD,” she said. “I know the standards of excellence we hold for our Longhorns, and I’m so thrilled to work with our students, families and staff to ensure all students receive the highest quality educational experience.”

In addition to her work in the school, Ms. Thornell actively engages in professional organizations to advance school initiatives. She has served as an instructional facilitator in Northwest ISD, and she has completed the National Institute of School Leadership program.

Ms. Thornell earned her master’s degree in educational administration from Texas Woman’s University and her bachelor’s degree from Baylor University. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in learning and organizational change from Baylor University, with an anticipated graduation in August 2024.
