Schools closed, classes canceled through January 30
Update: 5 p.m. Thursday, January 29
Out of an abundance of caution, all Northwest ISD schools and facilities will remain closed and classes are canceled through Friday, January 30. While district crews have spent the day clearing the most affected areas on campuses, many locations are projected to refreeze overnight.
District crews spent the day clearing parking lots and sidewalks of campuses most affected by remaining ice. Much of this ice continues to pool throughout parking lots and sidewalks and is likely to refreeze. Roads used by a large number of buses also remain in poor conditions. As accidents have occurred throughout the day across all portions of Northwest ISD, the district believes this decision is in the best interest of student and staff safety.
Northwest ISD plans to apply for an inclement weather waiver with the Texas Education Agency for the district’s fifth inclement weather day. If not granted, the district will add minutes to remaining school days. The district’s academic calendar includes enough instructional time to account for the previous four bad-weather days.
