Schools closed through February 3
Schools Closed February 3
Out of an abundance of caution, Northwest ISD schools and facilities will remain closed Friday, February 3, and classes are canceled as many residential and county roads remain unsafe for travel.
While major highways in the district have been treated and driven to improve road conditions, many Northwest ISD residential and county roads remain icy and dangerous. With temperatures in the 20s overnight, some roads and bridges are likely to refreeze before the morning commute. The district considered a delayed start at noon, but we cannot be certain road conditions will adequately improve by that time to safely run bus routes or allow a safe commute for families, student drivers and staff.
Because road conditions are expected to improve Friday afternoon and temperatures will increase, after-school activities will be allowed to resume. We strongly encourage anyone taking part in these activities to continue to exhibit safe driving practices, as ice patches could still exist in areas such as bridges, underpasses and roads covered by shade.
We look forward to seeing students when classes resume on Monday, February 6.
Schools Closed February 2
All Northwest ISD schools and facilities will remain closed Thursday, February 2, and classes are canceled as a result of continued inclement weather and poor road conditions. All school events and activities for the day continue to be canceled or will be rescheduled.
The district plans to make a decision whether to hold classes on February 3 by 5 p.m. Thursday. When classes resume, event leaders will update families on any rescheduled plans for events that were canceled or delayed during the winter weather closure. District leaders are coordinating with other school districts to create plans for events that involve non-NISD schools, such as UIL competitions.

From the time we started busing this morning, road conditions have rapidly deteriorated. At 4:45 a.m., roads were drivable before the conditions significantly worsened during this morning's commute.
