NISD schools gather over 2,800 cards for U.S. troops

This year, Sendera Ranch Elementary, J.C. Thompson Elementary and Tidwell Middle School gathered cards for the 10,000 for the Troops holiday card drive, in partnership with KSCS 96.3’s Hawkeye in the Morning and Support Our Soldiers (SOS).

Sendera Ranch and J.C. Thompson passed their combined 2,000-card collection goal, crafting and collecting over 2,300 holiday cards for U.S. troops, and Tidwell's National Junior Honor Society and Student Council gathered over 500 holiday cards for their fall service project.

Groups from the three schools dropped off their cards at the American Airlines Plaza where they had the opportunity to meet Mark "Hawkeye" Louis and Michelle Rodriguez from Hawkeye in the Morning!

"They were extremely grateful for our donations and the students had fun creating and delivering all of the letters," said Lindsey Davis, eighth-grade teacher at Tidwell.

"It hit me when we turned them in that this is over 2,000 people our students are blessing while they are away from home protecting us. We love this project," said Sandra Dougherty, third-grade teacher at Sendera Ranch.
