The National Honor Society recognized the Steele Early College High School chapter with the Chapter of Distinction Award, the second consecutive year they earned this achievement.

The award recognizes chapters that demonstrate strong leadership, sound operations and a deep commitment to the pillars of the National Honor Society. This distinction awards chapters that meet all essential standards and excel in key areas such as student governance and leadership development.

"The NHS Chapter of Distinction Award celebrates chapters that truly embody what the National Honor Society stands for — students who don't just excel academically but actively strengthen their communities," said Ronn Nozoe,  National Principals Association CEO. "The James M. Steele Early College High School chapter demonstrates how powerful it can be when young leaders channel their talents toward meaningful service and positive change."

With more than 70 members, Steele’s NHS chapter organizes many campus events throughout the school year, including the homecoming game, a family night in and spring fair.

“I am incredibly proud of the work these students have put into NHS to help it grow into what it is today,” said Katie Steinhauser, Steele’s National Honor Society advisor. “I genuinely could not ask for a better group of kids to advise. This distinction is entirely theirs and they have absolutely earned it.”

Each year, students collectively complete 2,800 community service hours, a reflection of the culture of service, Ms. Steinhauser said. This year’s color run hosted by Steele’s NHS chapter raised over $1,000 for the Apollo Animal Support & Rescue.

“I am so happy we've won this award and I can't wait to see what other great things our chapter of NHS accomplishes this school year," said Valerie Abai, Steele’s NHS student president.
