Northwest ISD plans to expand its high school program of choice opportunities with the addition of a JROTC – Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps – program at Davis High School, a long-requested addition.

District leaders have spent years analyzing the costs and requirements associated with a JROTC program, with limitations previously in place on the U.S. military’s expansion of the program as well as physical space requirements. With the construction of Davis High School, Northwest ISD will dedicate new square footage to meet program requirements, such as classrooms, lab areas, an armory and uniform storage.

To create these areas in the new school, space for the JROTC will be built into the second floor of Davis High School’s indoor practice facility. In addition to its extracurricular uses, this building will serve academics with classrooms on the first and second floors.

Northwest ISD has a strong history of supporting students interested in enlisting to serve our country, and adding a JROTC program is an opportunity we’ve looked forward to for years. Students have many paths in life after high school, and we want to ensure any student who plans to enlist for military service is adequately prepared.

In April, Northwest ISD submitted an application for an Air Force JROTC program. An exact timeline for the potential opening of the program will be determined if the application is granted by the government. The district hopes to know by the first semester of the 2026-2027 school year whether the federal government approves the program.

If the U.S. government approves a JROTC program at Davis High School, students across Northwest ISD will have the ability to request enrollment as a program of choice, just like the district’s academy system. Through a program of choice, students from any location in the district can request enrollment in a specialized program and attend the high school it resides in for all classes and extracurricular activities.

Davis High School is scheduled to open in August 2027 following voter approval in the 2023 bond election. In addition to the potential JROTC program, Davis High School will house the Transportation, Automation & Logistics Academy as the school’s second program of choice opportunity. A rezoning process will take place during the first semester of the 2026-2027 school year to determine the Davis High School attendance boundaries.

ABOUT DAVIS HIGH SCHOOL

Approved by voters in the 2023 bond election, Davis High School will open in August 2027 and receive students from Tidwell and Worthington middle schools, though exact boundaries will be set during a rezoning process. The school will feature the district’s new Transportation, Automation & Logistics Academy as part of Northwest ISD’s industry-leading career and technical education programs.

The school resides off North Riverside Drive in Fort Worth, near I-35 and S.H. 170. Construction of the school commenced early this year, and motorists can see the school taking shape when driving by its location on North Riverside Drive or the service road of I-35 next to the school. The school location can be seen on this Google Map.

Davis High School will feature Northwest ISD’s standard high school capacity for up to 3,200 students, a 6A level for UIL competition standards. When it opens during the 2027-2028 school year, Davis High School will serve freshmen and sophomores and grow a grade level each year. As with schools across Northwest ISD, academic and extracurricular programs will be equitable, subject to student interest and participation.

Students will be involved in the selection process for the Davis High School mascot in the coming months, while school colors will be maroon, black and white. Dr. Ron Myers, former principal of Byron Nelson High School, will serve as the inaugural principal of Davis High School.
