Byron Nelson High School’s cheerleaders earned bronze medals at the 2018-19 UIL State Spirit Championships on Saturday, Jan. 19, finishing third in the state’s largest classification.

The Bobcats earned bronze medals in the 6A Division II classification with an overall score of 89.60, behind McAllen Memorials’ 93.25 and Southlake Carroll’s 92.80. In the preliminary round, the Bobcats earned top marks in the band chant competition, finishing second overall.

This marks the second consecutive year the Bobcats have earned awards at the state meet, as they won the band dance competition in the 2017-18 season.

In addition to Byron Nelson's success, Eaton High School cheerleaders also posted a strong showing, advancing to the 6A Division II finals and finishing eighth with a score of 87.30. The Eagles earned bronze medals of their own in 2017-18, when they were in the 5A Division I classification.
