This summer, 11 of Northwest ISD’s Destination Imagination teams competed virtually in Global Finals against hundreds of teams from around the world. All 11 NISD teams placed, and two of the teams placed in the top 10: Medlin Middle School’s Fire Breathing Rubber Ducks and Adams Middle School’s Ill Informed Hot Pockets.

The Adams team, the Ill Informed Hot Pockets, was awarded the Renaissance Award for their “outstanding design, engineering, execution, and performance” in the Epic Remix challenge. In this challenge, students had to research music videos and create a music video of their own. The judges wrote that they were amazed with the team’s “beautifully hand-crafted, felt-cutout characters and backgrounds.” They said that the team “expertly animated both the characters and backgrounds using stunning stop motion. It must have taken an extraordinary amount of time to undertake such a large project.”

Other teams that represented Northwest ISD at Global Finals include: the Toxic Tiger Sharks from Lakeview Elementary, the JES Detectives from Justin Elementary, the Galaxy Nuggets from Lakeview, DI-namite from Thompson Elementary, Cumberland from Byron Nelson High School, A Strong Finish from Northwest High School, the Desperadoes of DI from Beck Elementary, the Cyber Sharks from Tidwell Middle School, and the Greater Thumbnail Turkeys from Chisholm Trail Middle School.
