Parents Rights
As part of the enrollment process and our Northwest ISD Code of Civility, we ask parents to formally acknowledge their rights, roles and responsibilities in their children’s education.
This formal affirmation sets the expectation that parents and guardians agree to actively ensure we are safe, we are respectful and we are responsible in Northwest ISD and that we will continuously model these positive behaviors for our students. These expectations are essential protections for the culture of excellence and positive learning environment for our students and staff.
This document is aligned to the Northwest ISD Core Beliefs and to the district’s Strategic Goal 3: “NISD will foster a safe environment and a culture of engagement that values the voices of all students, staff, families and community members.”

Parents Rights, Roles & Responsibilities
- Parents are the primary decision makers and advocates in their children’s education; and,
- Parents will hold their children accountable for meeting our high academic and behavioral expectations; and,
- Parents are responsible for monitoring their children’s academic and behavioral progress; and,
- Parents have a right to access school district educational records concerning their child; and,
- Parents have a right to access their children’s learning materials and to be aware of what their students are learning; and,
- Parents will be active partners and collaborate with NISD faculty and staff for their children’s educational interests; and,
- Parents are responsible for staying involved and engaging in their children’s learning; and,
- ·Parents will stay informed and are responsible for knowing and following school policies and procedures; and,
- Parents will communicate and interact with NISD educators safely, respectfully and responsibly. Failure to be a collaborative partner will call for consequences that will restore a safe and supportive environment.
- By holding ourselves accountable to the Code of Civility, we ensure that our staff can focus their full energy on their primary role: “preparing your student to confidently navigate their future.”
