What is the ACT?

The ACT is a comprehensive exam that is one of two tests commonly used for college acceptance purposes. The exam consists of four multiple-choice tests and one writing prompt:

  • English: 50 questions, 45 minutes.
  • Mathematics: 45 questions, 50 minutes.
  • Reading: 36 questions, 40 minutes.
  • Science (Optional): 40 questions, 40 minutes.
  • Writing (Optional): One prompt, 40 minutes.

While Northwest ISD does not currently offer the ACT as a district-administered exam, we’re pleased to share that ACT partners with two of our campuses to serve as Saturday national testing sites. This provides a convenient option for students to test close to home.

Students interested in taking the ACT at these locations should register directly through the ACT site. Once registered, ACT will provide test day details, and families will receive communication from ACT, not Northwest ISD or the campus.
